Achievements/Highlights of the Department
Prof. Zulfiqar Ali Bhat took over charge from Prof. Nahida Tabassum as Head of the Department on 11.06.2016.
Department of Science and Technology (DST), Govt. of India has sanctioned an amount of Rupees one crore as financial assistance for infrastructure development to the department under FIST scheme.
Twenty students of the department have qualified National GPAT examination. Several students got placement in IMS Health Care during campus recruitment drive and nine pass-outs of the department have been appointed as Junior Pharmacists at Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences, Srinagar.
Prof. M. Y. Shah has been appointed as Rector, Leh/Kargil Satellite Campuses of the University of Kashmir.
Prof. M. Y. Shah chaired a session in 11th J&K Science Congress organized by the University of Kashmir b/n 12-10-2015 to 14-10-2015. Prof. Z. A. Bhat acted as Rapporteur for the session.
Prof Nahida Tabassum Chaired a session in "Pharmaceutical Sciences Session" in 11th JK Science Congress organized by University of Kashmir, 12-10-2015 to 14-10-2015. Dr. Geer Mohammad Ishaqacted as Rapporteur for the session.
Prof. Nahid Tabassum recommended by DST GOI as mentor for INSPIRE award scheme for the year 2014-2015.
Prof. Nahid Tabassum was placed in the panel of experts for evaluation of PhD thesis/Viva of AIIMS-New Delhi and V B Patel Chest, University of Delhi.
Dr. Mubashir Hussain Masoodi (Sr. Assistant Professor) was awarded International Travel Grant from DST for attending 11th International Symposium on the Chemistry of Natural Compounds scheduled at Antalya, TURKEY from 1- 4 October, 2015.
Dr. Geer Mohammad Ishaq has been appointed as Member, Executive Committee, Society of Pharmacovigilance India (SoPI) for the year 2016. He has also been appointed as Member, Editorial Advisory Board for the Indian Journal of Pharmacy and Pharmacology.
Dr. Geer Mohammad Ishaq has been appointed as Member, Local Organizing Committee for the 16hAnnual Conference of the International Society of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP) to be organized jointly with Society of Pharmacovigilance India (SoPI) at Agra on October 17-19, 2016.
Prof. M. Y. Shah has been appointed as the first Dean of newly created Faculty of Unani Medicine, University of Kashmir till further orders.
Prof. Nahida Tabassum stands nominted by the Department of Science and Technology, GOI as Jury Member/Mentor for INSPIRE Award Scheme.
Dr Mubashir Hussain Masoodi and Dr Mohammad Iqbal Zargar attended international conference on medicinal and natural products at Antalya, Turkey and presented their research papers.
Dr. Geer Mohammad Ishaq has been appointed as Member, Expert Commitee for Antibiotic Use Evaluation under National Drug Utilization Evaluation Programme of India, by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi. He attended first review committee meeting at ICMR headquarters, New Delhi on September 28-29, 2015 as Expert Member to finalize research protocols for operationalization of the programme.
Dr. Geer Mohammad Ishaq chaired technical sessions during 9th annual conference of the North Zone Indian Association of Social and Preventive Medicine, held at Govt. Medical College, Srinagar on October 10, 2015 and during Global Conference of Unani Medicine, at SKICC, Srinagar on October 14th, 2015.
Dr Geer Mohammad Ishaq, received best paper presentation award during Medical Science session of the 11th JK Science Congress held at University of Kashmir on 14.10.2015.
Drugs Controller General of India, Mr. G. N. Singh has pledged a mobile drug testing laboratory to the state of J&K, a Pharmacovigilance Centre and an Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission laboratory to the University of Kashmir in his key note address during the 5th National Conference of the Partnership for Safe Medicines India Initiative held at the University of Kashmir on May 19-21, 2015.
AICTE, New Delhi awarded GPAT scholarships to all M.Pharm. 1st year students of the department (batch 2014) who had qualified GPAT entrance examination, after conducting an inspection of the department.
An online examination centre for conduct of National Level GPAT entrance examination for Pharmacy students was established by AICTE for the first time in Kashmir University on the recommendations of the Department.
Twenty three students of the department qualified National Level GPAT entrance examination required for seeking admission in various post-graduate courses of Pharmaceutical Sciences.
Free drug distribution and health check-up camps were organized in various flood affected areas across Kashmir valley by the department in collaboration with Udyog Development Foundation, New Delhi and Indian Medical Association, New Delhi in which medicines worth lakhs of rupees were distributed free of cost among the needy patients.
Faculty members of the department published 18 research papers in reputed national and international journals, presented 23 research papers in various national and international conferences and attended 15 conferences/workshops/seminars during the year 2014.
Prof. (Dr.) Z. A. Bhat appointed Coordinator, M.Pharm. Innovative Programme.
Prof. (Dr.) Nahida Tabassum appointed subject expert in Pharmacy for review committee of Major Research Projects by UGC, New Delhi.
Dr Geer Mohammad Ishaq appointed Principal Investigator for the state of Jammu and Kashmir by the Public Health Foundation of India, New Delhi for its pan-India research project on "Baseline evaluation of access to medicines". Dr Geer shall conduct the study in the state of J&K.

Five scholars of the Department were granted Research Fellowships by UGC under the scheme of “UGC BSR Fellowships in Science”.
Thirteen students qualified National level GPAT examination, one with All India Rank of 29th.
Twenty one research papers published by Faculty in peer reviewed International and Nationals journals.
85 abstracts published and 25 papers were presented by the faculty in different conferences and seminars.
10 students of the Department placed in Tata Consultancy Services during the year.
Under the Mentorship of Dr. M.Y. Shah, UGC has granted Dr. D S. Kothari Post Doctorial Fellowship in favour of Dr. Muneeb ur Rehman.
Prof. Nahida Tabassum, nominted by the Department of Science and Technology, GOI as Jury Member/Mentor for INSPIRE Award Scheme.
Dr. M. H. Masoodi, Sr. Asstt. Professor was awarded Raman Felloswhip for Post-Doctoral Research for Indian Scholars in USA and joined the internationally reputed National Centre for Natural Product Research, University of Mississippi, USA.

J&K Yough Scientist Award” was given to Dr. M. H. Masoodi, Sr. Assistant Professor, by the J&K State Council for Science & Technology, in the discipline of Engineering & Technology.
Dr Geer Mohammad Ishaq, Senior Assistant Professor appointed Joint Secretary, North Zone, Association of Pharmaceutical Teachers of India for the period 2013-2016.
Paper entitled, "Development of an indicator-based assessment tool for evaluation of medicines management practices of a tertiary care hospital" jointly co-authored by Mir Javid Iqbal and Dr. Geer Mohammad Ishaq was adjudged as best paper in Pharmaceutical Sciences session of the 9th J&K Science Congress held in the University of Kashmir.
Prof. M. Y. Shah and Dr. Z. A. Bhat, attended a conference in Sri Lanka and presented papers.
Dr. M. H. Masoodi and Dr. M. I. Zargar attended a conference in Austria and presented papers.
Dr Geer Mohammad Ishaq, Senior Assistant Professor Attended WHO-sponsored Asia Pacific Conference on National Medicines Policies, held at Hotel Sheraton on Park, Sydney, Australia between May 26-29, 2012 and presented a paper. He was awarded travel grant on merit by WHO-SEARO for attending this conference.
Dr Geer Mohammad Ishaq, Senior Assistant Professor attended 12 annual conference of the International Soceity of Pharmacovigilance (ISoP) held at Hotel J. W. Marriott, Cancun, Mexico between October 30th to November 3rd, 2012 and presented two papers. He was awarded travel grant on merit by ISOP for attending this conference.
One Ph.D. scholar awarded SRF by CSIR. 8 students qualified National level GPAT in the year 2012.
Six Pharma graduates of the departemnt were recruited by Medley Pharmaceuticals Ltd., Mumbai.
Prof. M.Y.Shah has been appointed as UGC nominee by UGC on the governing body of Utrtrakhand Technical University, Dehradun for a period of 05 years (2012-13 to 2018).
Prof. Shah has been appointed as member Expert Committee for allotment of funds under Innovative Programme in the field of Technology & Engineering (PHARMACY).
Prof. M.Y. Shah has been appointed as member Expert Committee for screening/ short listing of Major/Minor Research Projects in the Field of PHARMACY.

Allocation of a grant of Rs. 20 lacs by the UGC for strengthening of infrastructure of the department in terms of power supply, water supply, safety equipments, laboratory working tables etc.,. This is the first grant of long drawn process of creating first grade infrastructure in Universities as a part of UGC,s endeavour to improve facilities in Science and Technology.
Financial assistance by the UGC to the department at the level of DRS-I for 5 years, (2011-2016) under the Special Assistance Programme (SAP)Ø Award of Degree of Doctor of Philosophy (Ph.D) to Nisar Ahmad Khan (Asst.
