Professor
Prof. Geer Mohammad Ishaq has been serving as a faculty in Pharmacology at the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Kashmir over the last twenty three years. Prior to joining University of Kashmir, Prof. Geer has served as a Drug Control Officer at Drug and Food Control Organization (DFCO), J&K for a period of around three years. Prof. Geer has completed his post-graduation in Pharmacology from Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Sciences (RGUHS), Karnataka with Distinction and his doctorate in the same subject from University of Kashmir. He has been instrumental in designing and starting a post-graduate degree programme in Pharmacy Practice in the year 2009 and is at present in-charge of this PG programme offered by the University of Kashmir. Prof. Geer has earlier served as Director, Centre for Career Planning and Counselling, University of Kashmir for a period of around three years from 2021-2024 and as Coordinator of UGC-Human Resource Development Centre (HRDC) of the University of Kashmir for a period of around five years from 2016-2021. In these capacities he has organized and conducted numerous coaching programmes for civil service and NEET aspirants, career counselling sessions for college and university students, campus recruitment drives for college and university students, faculty development programmes including orientation and refresher courses for college and university teachers. Prof. Geer has published 51 research papers and presented 48 papers in various national and international conferences. He and his research team has won six best paper awards in various conferences and journals. He has delivered more than 200 extension lectures on diverse topics outside his department besides publishing 125 popular articles in print media. He is a peer reviewer and editorial board member of several highly reputed national and international journals and has reviewed more than 70 papers for the same. Prof. Geer has also been appointed as Member Expert Committee on Antibiotic Utilization under National Drug Utilization Evaluation Programme of India, by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi. He has also been appointed as Adviser to the Price Monitoring and Resource Unit (PMRU) of the Drug and Food Control Organization, J&K and as a Member of the PG Curriculum Committee of the Pharmacy Council of India, New Delhi. Prof. Geer has supervised many post-graduate and doctoral research scholars and has initiated pharmacovigilance and pharmacy practice related activities in the leading hospitals of J&K. Prof. Geer has served as member of the Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) of SKIMS, GMC, Srinagar, GMC, Baramulla and RRIUM, Srinagar earlier and has been enlisted as a Peer Reviewer by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC), Bangaluru. He has chaired more than 30 technical sessions in various conferences and has also been appointed as Nominee, CCSEA, Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying (MoFAH&D), Govt. of India. Prof. Geer has been consistently active in designing vision documents and framing policies for research, higher education, pharmaceutical care services, state drug policy, universal health coverage policy, drug procurement policy for tertiary care hospitals, J&K Research Consortium and implementation of NEP-2020.
